Once we understand excess, then we can get really simple.
Robert Rauschenberg
From the gallery "Collecting together the art poetry of SJ Fowler, this solo exhibition aims to pose several questions of the poem as a concrete, visual thing in the world. What is in the shape of a letter and what images do words recall? What is the meaning of colour in poetry and text upon the page, and white space? How does the situation of a poem change its meaning? Why is composition not a concept that applies to a medium that is innately visual? In literature, why has content overwhelmed context? Why has product dominated process? HARD TO READ poses these questions and answers them poorly, playfully, with over 40 original works drawn from multiple publications and previous exhibitions - works that interrogate handwriting, abstraction, illustration, asemic and pansemic writing, scribbling, crossings out, forgotten notes, strange scrawls - the odd interaction between paper and pen, and pencil, and coloured words that randomly collide with image recalling words."
Special view performance event : January Saturday 13th - Rich Mix Gallery : Free Entry - 7.30pm www.poembrut.com/
Part of Poem Brut, supported by Arts Council England.

I Received 2 Great New Books Of Asemic Writing Today: 'Echolalia In Script' by Sam Roxas-Chua, & 'The Way I Discovered The Berlin Wall Has Fallen' by Federico Federici.
Today I received 2 books of asemic writing in the mail. Both of these books are great and are wonderful additions to the library of asemic writing I am constructing! Sam's is the more varied of the 2 with everything from asemic calligraphy to images of sculptures where asemic writing is included as an element, while Federico's is computer coded in LaTex: the whole book is a macro-code which is shaped once distilled and printed. Both texts are at the opposite ends of the asemic spectrum as far as how they were written, but they have a similar spirit to them, secret and illegible yet still maintaining their aesthetic allure. I highly recommend these books for deep reading during the winter months (summer for you southern hemisphere people). Like all asemic books, they can be enjoyed and studied for a lifetime or casually perused in an afternoon.

Coming Soon in 2018! Artefacts by O Mayeux | Post Asemic Press #006
Artefacts cover |
On Artefacts
In January 2017, O
Mayeux wrote a computer program to dismantle all the poetry he has ever written,
to tear it apart at its seams, to stitch its syntax into itself. What remains
are these Artefacts, a cycle of
asemic poetry. The abstract erotic narrative threaded through these poems is a
delicate lament for the fragility of semantics, a tale of how we all remain unreadable
to each other.
